Keep in mind that this mountain road is quite winding, and there are a lot of changes in altitude, so if you take the car ride badly, we recommend you take some car sickness pills.
Valjevo
The gateway to Podrinje, also known as Drina Valley, is situated approximately 140 kilometers away from Belgrade. It takes around two and a half hours to reach this location by car. On your way there, you can visit the charming town of Valjevo, an hour and a half drive from Belgrade.
Bajina Bašta and Drina River House
After passing through the Gates of Podrinje, the road descends from the mountain and reaches the small town of Bajina Basta in about half an hour. This town is famous for the House on the Rock, which is located in the middle of the Drina River.
When to visit the Gate of Podrinje
Each season offers an entirely different view from the Podrinja Gate. Spring and summer are particularly beautiful when everything is green in the surrounding area. However, even in autumn, before the leaves fall, the view is even more colorful. Winter and snow are a unique experience, but sometimes, during heavy snowfall, this road is not recommended. Nevertheless, we would like to point out that the most beautiful scene occurs after the rain due to the haze created at the bottom of the mountain.
